About Mallard Bay
Mallard Bay is a property owners' association community located on Virginia's Northern Neck, a peninsula bounded by the Potomac River, the Chesapeake Bay, and the Rappahannock River. It consists of 169 lots ranging in size from 0.5 acre to 5.4 acres. Several of the lots are located on the shores of the Great Wicomico River, Bush Mill Stream, or one of two lakes or three ponds.
The community offers something for everyone in the family to enjoy. A spacious clubhouse, available free of charge to MBPOA members for public or private functions, is equipped with entertainment facilities, stone fireplace, WiFi, restrooms, kitchen, outdoor deck, and swimming pool. It overlooks the headwaters of the Great Wicomico River. Other amenities include two tennis courts, a basketball court, a soccer goal, a tetherball, a dog park and a multi-function game court featuring pickleball, volleyball, badminton, shuffleboard and basketball. The community maintains an active social schedule. Clubs and groups cater to a wide variety of interests. Regularly scheduled cookouts, parties and even the occasional casino night, murder mystery, lecture and live music are part of the available entertainment.
Those who relish a quiet day on the Great Wicomico, a tidal river that flows into the Chesapeake Bay, can make use of a community boat dock with individual boat slips available for rental, a separate crabbing pier with floating kayak/canoe dock, two kayak/canoe racks available for rent and a private boat launching ramp. The well-protected river, almost always mirror calm, is perfect for fishing, crabbing, sailing, power boating, and canoeing. Hiking trails give pleasure to all who delight in the natural beauty of the area enhanced by the picturesque setting of two freshwater lakes and three ponds, all of which offer catch and release fishing.
Wildlife that can be seen regularly include deer, rabbits, groundhogs, otters, raccoons, beavers, ducks, turtles, herons, eagles, owls, turkeys, vultures, geese, swans and osprey.
Developed by The Bay Company, the overall landscape design plan for Mallard Bay is the work of Virginia landscape architect Ralph Higgins. The clubhouse was designed by William Darwin Prillaman, A.I.A.
Northumberland County has authorized the use of golf carts on public roads within the Mallard Bay community.
